Rabbi Moishe Leider was born and raised in Toronto, Canada. He studied at Yeshiva University in New York and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in History. Following that, he spent a year in Torah Ore Yeshiva in Jerusalem and continued his studies at the Lubavitch Yeshivah in Morristown, New Jersey. He was ordained by the Central Lubavitcher Yeshiva in Brooklyn, New York in 1977.

In 1976, Rabbi Leider married the former Sura Sandlow, and today they have eleven bright and wonderful children. His family originally came from Chabad in Los Angeles in 1977. In 1979, Rabbi Leider was invited to come to San Diego as the campus rabbi for Chabad House at San Diego State University--a position he held for about eight years. During this time, Rabbi Leider was very instrumental in involving many college students in rediscovering their Jewish heritage through Shabbat services and meals, as well as, social programs, Torah study sessions, and individual counseling. He was also appointed Jewish Chaplain to the jails and prisons in San Diego county, which he continues this day.

In 1986, Rabbi Leider assumed position as rabbi of Chabad of La Jolla/ UTC, building the community up to a sizable proportion through innovative programs, stimulating services, dynamic classes, and home hospitality. All the time, his devoted wife Sura worked hard by his side, giving classes to women and speaking throughout the community on Jewish topics, while successfully ruling over a household that is constantly active.

The Leider home is known as the center of chassidisheh warmth & activity by day and by night. Guests constantly come in for a cup of coffee or tea and a good word. The Leider house is truly a Chabad house in every sense of the word and an extension of the synagogue.

Rabbi Leider hosted his own television program for over 12 years on public access cable and hopes to continue it in the future. He plays the guitar, and is a popular speaker in town.
